Becoming Global Citizens
The Merle-Smith Campus provides optional international and domestic travel experiences for Moravian Academy students. Typically offered over Spring Break and/or early summer, each faculty-led trip encourages hands-on learning, student engagement with the local community and aligns with Moravian Academy’s vision to prepare students to be interconnected as global citizens in the school community and beyond. Curating an understanding of diverse cultures, each travel opportunity offers a unique and exciting approach to experiential learning where students are challenged to become the best version of themselves while creating long-lasting friendships and connections.

Villars Institute Fellowship Program
Moravian Academy is proud to offer students a transformational global education opportunity through the Villars Institute Fellowship Program—a lifelong learning journey in the Swiss Alps that empowers young leaders to drive sustainable, systems-level change. Selected Fellows join an international network of changemakers, participate in the Villars Symposium, and continue their growth through ongoing mentorship and global partnerships.

Upcoming Trips
Japan: Spring Break 2027
Students currently enrolled in grades 9-12 can join Dr. Juan Rojo, Global Languages Department Chair and other Upper School faculty and administrators for an immersive and hands-on trip to Japan! Dive into Japan’s professional world and get a firsthand experience in two dynamic fields - automotive technology and culinary arts. From Tokyo’s bustling metropolis to Nagoya’s industrial heart to the Kansai region’s culinary hotspots, students will explore how tradition and innovation coexist in modern Japan. During this immersive adventure, students will bridge passions with potential professions by connecting with local experts and participating in hands-on workshops.
Travel Window: March 3, 2027 to March 14, 2027 (10 days; exact dates confirmed 2-3 months before departure).
Eligibility: Current students in grades 9-12
Trip Leader: Dr. Juan Rojo, Global Languages Department Chair
Global Travel Award
Students interested in global travel will have the opportunity to apply for a travel award of $650 generously funded by Mr. David Sommers, a retired long-term faculty member in the Global Languages Department. Students are encouraged to apply for the Global Travel Award if they are enrolled in the Japan trip. The award will be given to a student in good academic and disciplinary standing who best exemplifies the values of Moravian Academy while demonstrating commitment to their growth as an inclusive global citizen.

Applications are due at 11:59PM October 2, 2026.
Submissions after this deadline will not be considered. All applications will be reviewed by a committee including the Campus Director, College Counselors, Director of Student Activities, Dean of Students, and Director of Financial Aid.
