First Graders Transform Playground with Leaf Art Installation

Robyn Endress
While on their way to recess, two first-grade students stumbled upon some wonderfully large leaves, inspiring an impromptu art installation! The students brought the leaves to the playground and soon discovered that they could attach them to the small openings in the playground equipment. Their creativity quickly caught the attention of other classmates who, filled with curiosity, gathered to help.

What began as a simple leaf discovery turned into a heartwarming community project. Together, the first graders worked cooperatively, attaching the leaves until the playground seemed filled with “bats” hanging from the ceiling—a natural transformation that brought everyone joy.

In fact, they were so excited about the experience that they decided to share it with all of you! This special recess moment perfectly captures the spirit of learning and exploration at Moravian Academy—where play and discovery go hand-in-hand in fostering a vibrant, connected community.
