Comenius Project: Behind the Fancy Feast: Quality Control in the Pet Food Industry by Laura Li '26
Maggie Champagne
The Comenius Independent Study Program offers Moravian Academy sophomores, juniors, and seniors the chance to explore their interests through self-directed projects in specialized fields. This is their opportunity to showcase their passion for learning to our community and establish themselves as an independent scholar as they prepare for college!
Inspired by her cat's diabetes diagnosis and her passion for food science, Laura Li '26, questioned what makes animal food safe and how it earns the safe certification. In her Comenius Project "Behind the Fancy Feast: Quality Control in the Pet Food Industry," she researched the history of regulations, examined manufacturing processes and quality assurances, looked at ingredient sourcing and nutrient analysis techniques, and identified challenges and future directions in the industry.
